For more than twenty-five years, Meldrum & Bourtie Heritage Society (MBHS) has worked to preserve and share the rich history and heritage of our parish. Through exhibitions, photographs, publications and community events, MBHS has helped keep local stories and memories alive. As we look to the future, we want to build on that foundation and ensure that the Society remains relevant, engaging and valuable for future generations. The history of Meldrum and Bourtie is much more than old photographs. It includes our historic buildings, landscapes, traditions, industries, notable residents, family histories, archaeology, folklore and community memories. We believe there are many opportunities to explore and celebrate these aspects of our heritage.
Some ideas we are exploring
- We are interested in developing activities such as:
- Research and articles on local history topics.
- Recording oral histories and memories from local residents.
- Expanding our digital archive of photographs and documents.
- Exploring the architectural heritage of the parish.
- Supporting awareness of historic buildings and landscapes.
- Family and local history workshops.
- Talks, walks and guided visits.
- Working with schools and younger generations.
- Collaborating with other local heritage and community organisations.
- Creating new online resources and heritage trails.
These are only ideas at this stage, and we are keen to hear others.
